Music Together

Bringing  Harmony to the Community
Music Together of Treasure Valley

What is Music Together?
A Music Together® session is ten weekly, 45-minute classes that include songs, rhythmic rhymes, movement, and instrument play, and is just plain fun! These activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences–developmentally appropriate for infants through 7 year olds, and easy for parents and caregivers–regardless of their own musical ability. Songbook and two copies of the professionally recorded CD are included, along with a guide for new families.

Class Descriptions

Mixed-age Class
This is the essential Music Together class, one that a child can attend from birth through age four through all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience.

Babies Class
Every child’s development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. Because the early months are so important, Music Together offers two options for babies. Babies eight months and younger at the time of registration may attend a Mixed Ages Class, whether registered on their own or attending free with an older brother or sister. Babies may also take the special “Babies Class” offered as a one-semester introduction to Music Together. (This class cannot be repeated.) The music activities and materials are specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as possible about music development in babies. Meet other parents of newborns and learn some fascinating music activities you can recreate at home with your baby.

About the Instructor

Jennifer Myers
Jennifer Myers began studying flute with Eleanor Tibblas-Pennington at the age of eight, continuing her study at the University of Redlands, then with Toshio Takahashi at the Talent Education Institute of Matsumoto, Japan, graduating in 1994. Since then she has maintained a private flute studio and continues her study of both music and early childhood development. In 1999, when she and husband Jeff started a family, Jennifer began to research how best to include music in their daily life and discovered the Music Together® program. After completing training she became a registered Music Together Teacher and licensed Center Director, joyfully sharing music with her family, including sons Max and Vaughn and local families. The Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ, has awarded Jennifer Music Together Certification Level I status for outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy, and parent education.
