AfterSchool Program Overview
Welcome to The Landing AfterSchool Program
The Landing AfterSchool Program is for ages 6-12 and is open Monday-Friday 3:00pm-6:30pm
Our Mission:
To come alongside young people, regardless of ethnic, religious, or economic diversity to enrich and strengthen their lives.
Expectations and Behavior Guidelines: Together at The Landing Community Center we will:
1. Treat others with RESPECT
2. Use INTEGRITY when we make decisions
3. Take RESPONSIBILITY for our words and actions
Some of the Great Programs we offer include:
- GetGo: (GET it done, GO play!)
Every day from 4:30-5:30 members have a quiet place to complete their homework and get help if needed. Members receive points for their participation in GetGo and are eligible to win great prizes at the end of each week! - Community Heroes:
Members learn the importance of serving others, taking care of their community and being role model. These leaders assess community needs and plan projects to address the needs (i.e. a community wide recycling program) - Word of the Month:
Respect, Integrity, Kindness, Responsibility… each month a new character word is introduced and is reinforced daily through the programs and activities - Drama 101: Have a flair for the dramatic? Like to pretend and use your imagination? Then come have fun at Drama 101! All Ages.
- 4 Star Fitness: Kids love to move and play, and we love to encourage them! At 4 Star Fitness, kids will learn new skills, have fun competing together, and appreciate the importance of physical fitness. All ages.
- Music Theory: Do you have an emerging musician at your house? Or maybe just a kid who loves music? Music Theory will teach the fundamentals of music, let kids experiment with different instruments, and give them the opportunity to develop a greater love for music! 4th and 5th graders.
- Cooking School: Not only is cooking fun to learn, it is an important skill for kids to learn! At Cooking School, kids will learn vocabulary, phrases, and the science behind food and cooking. Hands on classes will involve learning to read recipes, follow directions, and make delicious food. 2nd grade-5th grade.
- Sew What?: Not only will kids leave Sew What? with an awesome stuffed animal that they sewed themselves, they will learn to sew, practice eye-hand coordination, and finish a project by themselves. All ages.
- Elementary Painting: A class designed for 6-8 year olds, Elementary Painting will offer young kids a chance to explore their creative side! Through different painting techniques and exciting painting projects, they will learn the art of paint & develop their artistic abilities. 1st-2nd graders.
Positive Action in Action AfterSchool
Thank You to Benchmark Research and Safety for their support! For the second year in a row our AfterSchool Program has been awarded a grant to implement Positive Action, a character development program for young people. Positive Action is a nationally recognized, evidence-based program that improves academics, behavior, and character. For over 25 years, more than 13,000 families, schools, and community organizations have benefited and continue to grow through Positive Action.
The founding principle of Positive Action, illustrated by the Thoughts- Actions- Feelings Circle, is that “Positive thoughts lead to positive actions, positive actions lead to positive feelings about yourself, and positive feelings lead to more positive thoughts.”
Throughout the school year, members of our AfterSchool Program will learn about self-concept, positive actions for your mind and body, managing yourself responsibly, treating others the way you like to be treated, telling yourself the truth, and improving yourself continually.
